Only a couple of months left until this site is gone for good.
It's been over 2 years since I left 3000ad and haven't touched any Battle Cruiser game since
not that I played them that much then.
I've not even been tempted to try any of the so called new titles.
So once the introductory offer ends on this crap ISP (Virgin and their bullshit bandwidths shaping policy ) it will be gone for good.
I would not have continued with Virgin if Sky had been available but I had to wait until BT upgraded the local exchange. So I'm paying Sky the same amount as I pay Vermin but am getting up to 16M connection and no bandwidth limiting

My now deleted post from this thread at BC300ad.com in its entirety.
Its a shame I didn't backup a copy of SC original post as he has edited it and cut out the more lurid bits about collating the server logs and forwarding them to the FBI.

Why am I posting here and not PMing, E-mailing or using the internal 3kchat basically I'm to idle to write more than one msg and what follows in the last section is pertinent to this thread.

Sorry if you feel this is a kick in the teeth SC especially as I'm doing it in public but its a decision I've been going to make for a long time now my intention was to slip away and never return after deleting (banning) my own profile but it looks like things went wrong [Biggrin]

Afew of the FL / CAT and some forum member have known how I feel for some time probably the first inkling I gave them was when I turned down an offer of a FL position and I explained my reasons why to them.

The Forum and Community has gone downhill over the past year or so.

What do I use to justify this, just look at how certain Admins / moderators conduct themselves on this board look in the General Discussions and in particular in the Politics, Religion & Legal etc threads.

The only reason I re-signed up for the Beta program in September was the chance for a free and perpetual account in return for participation in UCO beta but I guess even that no longer is enough to keep me here.

I no longer actively moderate these forums, I haven't edited or deleted a single post in many months even though I've seen many that needed it.

My time here is done.

In conclusion I have outgrown the forum or the forum has outgrown me in any case its time for me to leave.

I don't think the forum was Hacked
So what happened last night?
Well around 8pm (my time) After reading a few e-mails and visiting 2 forums from what I read I finally made the decision it was time to leave the BC community .

So I logged into the CP
Went to member management and performed a search for username Pugwash and Login name Pugwash.
As expected 1 result was returned
I ticked the selection box and selected Delete from the action to perform combo box and performed the action.
On the confirm paged I confirmed I did want to delete.
The result was 1 profile deleted.
But I was not kicked out of the CP as expected.
So I open my profile and delete from within but this time the CP reply is I cannot delete myself.
At which point I give up and go to bed.

I checked with Dysdns and as the last update for my IP was earlier Monday night my IP address was probably 82.47.184.189 so if this was the offending IP for the hack no hack took place.

I just loved reading the posts in this thread.

I'm gone.

You know what will strike some of you as really ironic because it does me, is that a person famed rightly or wrongly for producing one of the buggiest pieces of software may have suffered by a bug in someone else software.

I received an e-mail wanting to know what all the fuss was about and why I resigned?

Well it was in response to this post by Derek (posted 11-28-2005 10:45 AM).

I had the site pulled after someone sent me this thread.

For some reason, Shingen seems to think that I have something against him. Funny thing is, I don't. He was banned from here - twice - for inappropriate behavior. To the extent that when I re-instated him the second time, the admins didn't want him back. So I upheld the decision.

Fact is, I don't mind people hosting BC sites, as long as they have my expressed written permission and that they are in the BC web ring.

Apart from that, in Shingen's case, considering the crap he posts about me and my games, it would only be a matter of time before his site turns into another full fledged DS-hate site. I'm not putting up with that any longer.

I can see from reading his post it's inoffensive enough and nothing new in it that you would not expect
I have to be careful here as I don't want to break the NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT although actually it could be claimed I already did (see my post in response to DS post). The problem is I knew for a fact that Derek knew about this site on 30 October 2005 and had decided to do nothing about it
A new topic posted earlier that day (30 October 2005) on the 3000ad forum advertising the fact that Shingen had a new web site which was now up and running had also been deleted within a few hours of it being posted

So what had changed between 30 October 2005 and 28 November 2005?
He had a change of heart? may be
That would be fair enough I had expected Shingen's site to have been pursued from day one.
But what I see in this post is typical example of what is wrong at the 3000ad forum.

IMHO it is intended to fool the reader into believing that appropriate action had been taken as soon as the matter had be brought to his attention which is dishonest at best

I know it doesn't actually say "This morning I received an email blar blar blar and " but I'm sure most of you who read it thought the actions were base on new information and topical events which had happened within the past few days.

Why wasn't a warning and request for compliance sent and on failure to comply stronger action taken as in the case of Khaosprime?
Doesn't Jaguar oversee all Webring compliance in the first instance followed up by Derek if the site involved fails to follow the requirements?

Unfortunately I fear Dereks last statement will be a self for filling prophecy Shingen will have a hard time keeping the anti DS sentiment off the site.

I still think something more has gone on here than is out in the public arena, only time might tell if that's true or not.

With all due respect Derek, I find this a bit disturbing. Of the umpteen real sites that actually do bash you and your game you chose to pull the plug on IndieBC because you thought it might become one?

Seriously, what more could be posted about you or your games that you haven't already heard a million times over? Was this really the straw that broke that camels back? I find that hard to believe.

I have purchased and supported your games since the original BC3K was released. I understand the way you like this forum to be run and why you do so, but the downside of your stance is that it stifles honest and open discussion. Discussion that could possibly lead to your games being even better than they are.

You deserve kudos for taking such an active role in supporting your product, but I can't tell you how many times I didn't post about an issue/bug or whatever because of the ruckus it would cause. So when my game crashes after a few hours of play and I lose all that time investment, I just walk away and hope that it somehow gets fixed. You know what? I'm still hoping.

In any event, I've a suspicion this decision was primarily motivated by personal vendetta and the fear that certain notable personalities here at 3000AD *might* get offended at some of the things they *might* read at IndieBC. And to that I say, "If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen", sound familiar?

[huh?]

Don't get me wrong I love the BC series and probably always will, I purchased copies of UCG and UCAWA but have hardly played UCG and probably only played AWA for around 30 hours or so.

I have the utmost respect and admiration for Derek, I wish I had some of his character traits in larger amounts (it wouldn't have taken me over a year to leave the forum if I had) but like all of us he is human and makes mistakes.
Some of you will say I have made a mistake in my actions and I should just of kept quiet but it's so indicative of what the BC Forum has become.
There's no real debate about the game, the only "real debating" soon slips into it usual routine of member baiting until the threads degrade in to personal insults and CAT members step in to censor the posts and instil some order again.

There just seems, to me anyway, something wrong with the forum, the way the political threads operate and the whole fleets system.

Where have all the old guard gone? those who helped build this forum and community in what it once was.

I logged into my profile on Battlecruiser Online for the first time in since November last year and found this in place of the usual profile page.
